1. Tell us a bit about you!
Hmm… I am a Florida girl. Married to an incredible man and a
mommy to two precious little girls Ellie and Kira. I love my Heavenly
Father, without whom this business would not be possible. I am huge
fan of chocolate chip cookies. I have a cocacola addiction. I secretly
want to be a hip hop dancer. And… I love mentoring teens.
2. How did you end up being a photographer?
I actually started by diving into videography first… (I have
a background in TV News). Then, the photography started somewhat after
that. I became fulltime when my oldest little girl, Ellie, was born.
This business has been a huge blessing for me and a way to be home
with my kids throughout most of the week.
3. why do you love what you do?
I really do love this job… I love the challenges, the
stories, and the people I get to meet… It is really awesome to be
there capturing the most precious moments in people’s lives. It is
such a privilege, really. I also love that I get to build
relationships with my clients. So many of them have become dear
friends.
4. what inspires you in your work?
I would have to say photographing my kids keeps me creative.
It’s my “fun photography time.” I also get inspired by movies,
magazines, music, and oftentimes just God’s beautiful creation.
5. pick a favorite role model, and tell us why you respect them?
I have a lot of people I look up to. I guess if I had to pick
one person.. it would probably be my mommy. She inspires me to care
about other people. She has five kids and disciples several women each
week. She is constantly giving her time and lending her ears to those
in need. She loves the Lord and continues to encourage me in my own
walk with Him.
7. what equipment do you use and why do you love it?
I am a Canon girl. Mainly because that is how I started. I do love
Canon’s customer service and their variety of lenses.
8. how would you describe your style?
Gosh, this question always is hard to nail down an answer for… If I
had to use words… creative, crisp, and clean images… I love
simplicity. So I don’t use many filters or post-editing effects. I
really want my photos to be modern… but still have a classic,
timeless touch. And my focus when shooting is to capture actual
moments, real emotions, not posed ones.
9. if you could second shoot for any photographer, who would it be and why?
Eek. There are probably a few I would love to shoot for. Probably
Millie Holloman if I had to choose. Just because she is a fun lady to
be around… and works with ease.
10. give us a disaster story. Has anything terrible or crazy happened
at a shoot/wedding and how did you handle it?
Hmm…I have a funny one. I was outside of a wedding waiting for the
exit. And the guests were holding sparklers… well one came a little
close to me… and caught my sleeve of my sweater on fire. I am
snapping away.. and then before I realized what was going on people
were smacking my arm… Good thing it didn’t get to my hair!
11. what is the most challenging thing about your line of work?
Definitely finding balance. There is a lot of freedom in owning your
own biz and running your own schedule. But, I often find it hard to
say no. I am getting better. I have to schedule in down time, creative
time, bookkeeping time, etc. Or I will go crazy!
12. tell us why you love SoFly!
It is a community of girls who go through the same thing I do on a
daily basis. We learn from each other, assist each other, and
challenge each other… not only to be better photographers, but
better mommies, friends, etc.
13. what is your favorite website/blog?
I love facebook. In fact.. I have to limit my facebook time or I get
carried away!
14. tell us something you’ve learned recently that you’ve applied to
your business
I am still learning to prioritize my life! I love photography and
all… but to be honest, I do this to be able to be home with my kids.
So I need to make sure I am organizing my business side enough that I
still have protected family time. I only take on 20 weddings a year
right now. That has been huge. It is hard to say no once the year is
booked, but it is so important for me. I am really trying to only do
what I need to do to pay the bills. The rest of my time is used for my
kids, my hubby, and ministry. I wrote more about it here… in a
recent blog post.

I am also learning that you need to be comfortable with who you are as
a photographer. Don’t worry about what others do or compare your work
to theirs. Be you and unique to who YOU are.

15. give us one item in your arsenal of equipment that you simply
could not live without!
I am a huge fan of the 50mm 1.2. My fav lens.
16. 5 words your friends/family have used to describe you
17. where do you see yourself in five years, and what are you doing to
get there?
I am so bad about these five year plans… Honestly, I want to be
wherever God wants me to be. If I am still doing photography… sweet!
I hope that I am… and that my business is in some ways running
itself. I hope that I will be more balanced and organized. How am I
going to do that?? By the Grace of God
Lots of discipline and
prayer

jenny this was such a blessing to me. you’re a great reminder to me that i need to take time for my family. love ya girl!
