Q: How did you end up being a photographer?
A: I am the cliche MWAC (mom with a camera).
Q: why do you love what you do?
A: I love what I do because it enables me to stay home with my kids. Yes, I am passionate about the photography aspect, but when it really comes down to it, being home with my babies and having my own business is incredibly empowering.
Q: what inspires you in your work?
A: The reaction from families when viewing their images in person.
Q: pick a favorite role model, and tell us why you respect them?
A: A photography role model…..there are so many. The photographers that I really look up to are ones that aside from being awesome photographers are even more unbelievable business women.
Q: what are some of your favorite images?
Q: what equipment do you use and why do you love it?
A: I shoot Nikon for no other reason but my dad always has, but I definitely love it. I’ve been hearing not so great things about the focus in Canons, so I’m very happy with my choice in gear.
Q: how would you describe your style?
A: I am a modern family photographer. Lots of bright colors. If one of my images makes you chuckle or even laugh out loud, then I’ve done my job.
Q: if you could second shoot for any photographer, would it be and why?
A: Laura Novak, and to be honest, I don’t even want to shoot with her.
I’d love a one-on-one to talk business. She runs two very successful photography brands.
Q: give us a disaster story. Has anything terrible or crazy happened at a shoot/wedding and how did you handle it?
A: I had a brand new speedlight fail during a Bat mitzvah event I was photographing. How did I handle it?…..Kat Braman was with me…-nuff said.
Q: what is the most challenging thing about your line of work?
A: Trying to be one step ahead of the other guy. There are a lot of photographers in my area. I need to stay current and continue to offer products and services that are one of a kind. I describe a session with me as more of an experience. Being able to come up with ways to change the experience so clients choose to come back.
Q: tell us why you love SoFly!
A: there are no words……….
Q: what is your favorite website/blog?
A: is it terrible to say facebook! Although I just read The Savvy Photographer today. I love being able to see into the studios of other successful photographers.
Q: tell us something you’ve learned recently that you’ve applied to your business
A: learn to say no, be consistant in your policies. Your clients will respect you more.
Q: give us one item in your arsenal of equipment that you simply could not live without!
A: My camera! Nikon D700.
Q: 5 words your friends/family have used to describe you
Q: where do you see yourself in five years, and what are you doing to get there?
A: I’m going to be the go-to gal for the boutique portrait studio experience in Dade and Broward counties. Being that I share a space now inside a busy kids’ hair salon, I’m hoping that it will serve as a nice stepping stone so that maybe, even within the next year, I can open up my own boutique natural light portrait studio.
