Q: Tell us a bit about you!
Q: How did you end up being an organic photographer?
A: I’ve always carried a camera with me everywhere for as long as I can remember. Taking pictures was just always how I held on to things that I loved. People, places, and most importantly moments. Not the posed kind like my parents always forced us to smile for but the real, true ones. So, after a few sad “real world” jobs and a lot of encouragement from my husband, I dove into the world of professional photography head-first and never looked back.
Q: why do you love what you do?
A: I thrive on relationships. They challenge me, motivate me, enthuse me and are what I live for. To me, my job is all about that.
Q: what inspires you in your work?
A: Creation. My identity as a child of God. The way light touches the morning and it’s colors in the evening. And Pretty Music.
Q: pick a favorite role model, and tell us why you respect them?
A: I actually don’t have just one, other than Jesus of course.
Q: what are some of your favorite images?
Q: what equipment do you use and why do you love it?
A: Canon, but I don’t always love it. But it feels very much like a part of me so I can’t imagine making a switch any time soon.
Q: how would you describe your style?
A: well the sofly keywords we came up with as a group were “soft, real and romantic”
Q: if you could second shoot for any photographer, would it be and why?
A: Well my fave is Jose Villa but I think I would have to choose Adam Barnes. He was the very first photographer whose work I fell in love with, he shot my wedding and I think it would just be so fulfilling and rewarding to shoot with him for that reason.
Q: give us a disaster story. Has anything terrible or crazy happened at a shoot/wedding and how did you handle it?
A: The worst things that have happened to me have been camera malfunctions that thankfully did not turn into major crises. Also, a lot of prayer and prep goes a long way in preventing disasters too!
Q: what is the most challenging thing about your line of work?
A: the biggies: time management. endless editing. staying mentally and emotionally refreshed. being confident in my abilities. making time for my life.
Q: tell us why you love SoFly!
A: SoFly is my go-to-group to ask questions and troubleshoot challenges, as well as an awesome source of encouragement and community for me.
Q: what is your favorite website/blog?
A: does facebook count?
Q: tell us something you’ve learned recently that you’ve applied to your business
A: Still working on perfecting this, but it is to take a day off. I think it is absolutely crucial but near impossible for me.
Q: give us one item in your arsenal of equipment that you simply could not live without!
A: My iphone.
Q: 5 words your friends/family have used to describe you
A: Outgoing. Welcoming. Cheesy. Thoughtful. Whimsy.
Q: where do you see yourself in five years, and what are you doing to get there?
A: Five years from now, I’d love to have a budding family and a balanced business. How am I going to do it? Prayer and patience (I hope).
